My New Toy

Well I got my Velocity Micro Cruz Reader and I must say that I am in love. Before I wasn’t convinced that having something that was touchscreen only would be any good. But I’m sold on it now. It is mainly being portrayed as an ereader by Velocity Micro. But it can do so much more. The only thing it does not do well is play flash videos. That makes me very sad. Now If I want to watch anime on it I am going to have to convert video files into avi. But I guess that is fine by me. It definitely functions as an ereader real well. I might be making some blog posts from it.

With the help of the people over at the Slatedroid forums I was able to get a custom rom loaded and it made it better. It became better because the stock rom does not have the Android Market on it. There is also a nice tutorial over at Slate about rooting the device and overclocking it. I haven’t got to the rooting and overclocking on it yet. I’m just happy that I have access to the full android market. Now I just await the release of Android 3.0 honeycomb and see if Velocity Micro will offer that up for download for the Cruz Reader. If they did I would be so happy.

I think that the Android operating system has a good future ahead of it as a tablet operating system. I plan to get to rooting the device and overclocking it in the next couple of days. I will tell you all how that goes. As I said before Android is going to really shine as a tablet. I can see Android 3.0 really making that happen though. By what I have been hearing it is going to be built more for a tablet interface. If that is true then bring it on. As always this is Xly15 and check back later for more.
